Michael Alexander took a ripper of a catch at first slip for Clares Cricket Club against Kovsies Cricket Club in the Momentum National Club Championships in Pretoria on Sunday 14 April 2019.
The bowler was 32-year-old leggie Abdul Hack Razak (who has 108 first-class wickets to his name), who took 4/20 in 10 superb overs of legbreak bowling, including two wickets in two balls, in the match.
Razak’s first wicket was that of Sipho Mavanda, caught for 2 by Michael Alexander in the slips as the batsman went onto the back foot and cut hard at the ball, but perhaps too close to his body.
Razak gave the ball a nice bit of loop but kept the ball close to the line of stumps, making it tough for the batsman to get it away successfully. Alexander snapped up the screaming catch with two hands as it flew fast at him.
Having rolled Kovsies for 144 in 44.2 overs, Clares cruised to victory with 24.2 overs to spare.
The event, which is put together by Cricket South Africa (CSA), encompasses the six outright winners of the Franchise regional play-offs, all playing against each other in a 50-over format.
