Clares Cricket Club strolled to a nine-wicket win over Kovsies Cricket Club in the Momentum National Club Championships in Pretoria on Sunday 14 April 2019.
The destroyer-in-chief with the ball was 32-year-old leggie Abdul Hack Razak (with 108 first-class wickets to his name), who bowled quite superbly to take 4/20 in 10 magnificent overs of legbreak bowling, which included two wickets in two balls.
Razak’s first wicket was that of Sipho Mavanda, caught brilliantly for 2 by Michael Alexander in the slips as the batsman went onto the back foot and cut hard at the ball, but perhaps too close to his body.
He followed that up by bowling top scorer Sachintha Galhenge for 44, bowled Dilivio Ridgaard for 17, and the coup de grace was bowling tail-ender Wizzard Ncedane for a first-ball duck.
Having rolled Kovsies for 144 in 44.2 overs, Clares cruised to victory with 24.2 overs to spare.
The event, which is put together by Cricket South Africa (CSA), encompasses the six outright winners of the Franchise regional play-offs, all playing against each other in a 50-over format.
